I understand the journey of chronic inflammation, mould illness and trauma because I’ve been there too.
I thought I had a normal life, with my aims and goals, my achievements, a good job, a long-term relationship.
Yes, I had a very challenging childhood, a ferocious inner critic, many perfectionistic tendencies and a very shaky sense of self-worth, but I was dutifully and passionately working on it… I didn’t know it was trauma…
I read books, meditated, attended self-development and spiritual courses – nothing seemed to make me feel better. At some point, I decided to train as a holistic counsellor and psychotherapist. I was unconsciously drawn to specialising in trauma.
Then, after over a decade dealing with a vast range of body symptoms, I was diagnosed with mould illness and a mast cell activation syndrome (MCAS). Finally, someone had been able to link the dots (ALL of the dots) and get to the bottom of why I physically struggled and felt so bad all the time.
My symptoms included chronic fatigue, severe brain fog, difficulty finding words, hives, SIBO (twice), shingles, hair thinning and loss, tinnitus and hormonal imbalances, among others. Mould illness also affected my capacity to heal, with bruises and cuts taking months to go back to normal.
My life ground to a halt. I had to go back to basics to heal. It was overwhelming and involved all areas of my life.
While going through mould illness treatment, I delved into neuroscience and discovered how the nervous system is at the core of physical healing. I uncovered how past trauma makes us vulnerable to environmental illnesses and why it can hinder recovery. I also found out I was a highly sensitive person.
The sense of validation from these studies was exhilarating!
The practices and tools I learnt made a huge difference in my healing. They changed my life.
Through this journey, I found meaning in my illness and purpose for my life – supporting people like you through the tough path to mould illness recovery and trauma healing.
I get so excited when I share about the beauty of our nervous system and how our body loves us by keeping us safe.
We make sense and there is nothing intrinsically broken within us.
Something moves in my heart when I think about each person’s individual journey through life and what our souls require of us to make us the person we are.
